The
Courthouse Arts Centre presents Superstitious
Aura, a solo exhibition of new work by Irish artist Gráinne Tynan. In this
current body of work Tynan analyses Frazerian themes relating to magic, belief,
primitivism, and survival. The work is inspired by research of local submissions to the 1938 Schools
Folklore Scheme in UCD’s National Folklore Archive. Her engagement with folklore, questions the
social meanings of ‘magical’ practices in an age of science, she produces art
that probes and problematises the place of shared myths in today’s world. The site-specific installation includes
large immersive drawings, along with sculpture and paintings.
